Everybody present out there appreciated the hardwork of the cast and crew for making this film with all the heart.
The story speaks about the pain of the person who undergoes the trauma. In such a case, an acid attack survivor looses the confidence in themselves and the will power of living the life with pride.

NewsAfter registration of an FIR for committing fraud and forgery by Kotak Mahindra Bank and others including Uday S. Kotak and Anand Mahindra, Bagla family has also filed a complaint with the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi, under Section 200 r/w 190 Cr. P.C. for taking cognizance of offences Committed U/s 211 (IInd Part), 499/500, 501, 502 r/w 120B/34 IPC, against Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd & others.
In the complaint apart from one Virendra Kumar Sharma, Kotak Mahindra Bank and its Directors & Company Secretary and other officers namely Mr. Uday Suresh Kotak, Managing Director, The Regional Manager, Kotak Bank (Delhi & NCR), Mr. Anand Mahindra, Mr. Shivaji Dam, Mr. Chengalath Jayram, Dipak Gupta, Ms. Bina Chandarana, Company Secretary, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Prasad (The Then Deputy Manager, Legal), Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Officer, Kotak Bank and CVIL Infra Limited and Bennett Coleman & Company Ltd., were made accused.
It has been alleged in the complaint that the above named accused in connivance with the each other, falsely implicated one Bhupendra Bagla son of Dr. Santosh Kumar Bagla (a renowned business family based at Mumbai & Delhi) in a criminal case by using forged and fabricated documents created and used by the above named accused.
It has been further alleged in the complaint that the averments made by the accused in this regard has resulted in multiple litigations and publication, which are public documents and due to such malicious publication and false allegations, the reputation of complainant and Dr. Bagla’s family, got tarnished in the eyes of their friends, employees, business relations etc. It has been also alleged that the credibility built by the Complainant over a span of time, has been shattered due to leveling the false, frivolous, fictitious and baseless allegations against the complainant. The Court has been prayed to take cognizance of the matter and also prayed to punish the named accused as per law.
The matter was listed before the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi wherein the Court has directed the complainant to file certified copies of the judicial record as relied upon and FIR lodged on the complaint of the accused, before the next date of hearing.

Chandigarh, December 13, 2019: Renowned VJ, actor and MTV Roadies winner Rannvijay Singha has donned a new cap – that of a food entrepreneur. Rannvijay is passionately following his ‘culinary dream’ of setting up a series of International chain ‘Doner & Gyros’ outlets across India. ‘Doner & Gyros’ offers scrumptious sandwiches made in Chicago and Berlin style.
Rannvijay, Prateek Sachdev and Vikram Singh Zeeshan all are partners in the Indian Master Franchise, 4 TPS – bringing ‘Doner & Gyros’ to India. As part of an ambitious plan, Rannvijay, who also is a Punjabi has decided to come to his roots, to unveil an outlet of ‘Doner & Gyro’s’ at the food court in Elante Mall, Chandigarh. “Doner & Gyros” is a casual fast-food restaurant.
Rannvijay created quite a stir among fans who were excited to see him interacting with media at a well-appointed area in Elante Mall’s spacious food court, to announce details about his new venture as a business entrepreneur. He was accompanied by Prateek Sachdev and Vikram Singh Zeeshan both dynamic & young hospitality industry magnates.
Going Back in time in the 70’s, Doner (meat wrapped in bread) was a very popular street food of Berlin; in simple terms Doner is made using seasoned meat stacked in the shape of an inverted cone and turned slowly on a rotisserie or rotating spit, while Chicago Gyro (originally Greek) which is meat cooked on a vertical and then put in baked bread, was first served in the US in 1965. These traditional foods are made at ‘Doner & Gyros’ by expert chefs.
Rannvijay said, “I recall my earlier days, when I went to the U.S for work I had observed tremendous craze for ‘Doner & Gyros’ among residents, especially the youth. From those days I always dreamt of bringing ‘Doner & Gyros’ to India. My objective is now being fulfilled through 4 TPS. The USP of the menu in India is that we have tweaked an otherwise mainly non-vegetarian offering to add an array of delightful and tasty vegetarian recipes. ऑटोग्राफ प्रोडक्शन और रिजवान अदतिया प्रोडक्शन के बैनर तले बनी फिल्म “रिजवान – एन इंस्पिरेशनल ट्रू स्टोरी” का ट्रेलर और म्यूजिक लांच जुहू स्थित एक होटल में हुआ। फ़िल्म के सभी स्टारकास्ट, डायरेक्शन और प्रोडक्शन टीम उपस्थित हुए साथ में पदमश्री और पद्मविभूषण से सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध गायक उदित नारायण, मशहूर संगीतकार समीर सेन, अभिनेत्री सुजाता मेहता और कॉमेडियन सुनील पाल ने भी शिरकत की। ‘रिजवान’ फ़िल्म का संगीत संगीतकार समीर सेन के पुत्र सोहेल सेन ने दिया है। फ़िल्म में तीन गाने हैं और तीनों गाने मोटिवेशनल और मधुर है। गायक कलाकार उदित नारायण और अल्तमश फरीदी हैं। उदितनारायण तो अपने क्षेत्र में प्रसिद्ध और एवरग्रीन हैं ही साथ ही अल्तमश की गायकी भी शानदार है। उनका ‘एक मुलाकात’ और ‘एक चुम्मा’ गीत ब्लॉकबस्टर साबित हुआ है और इस फ़िल्म का उनके द्वारा गाया गीत भी उसी श्रेणी का है।
‘रिजवान’ फ़िल्म के डायरेक्टर हरेश व्यास ने बिजनेसमैन रिजवान अदतिया की जीवनी पर आधारित यह बॉयोग्राफी फ़िल्म का निर्माण किया है। एक गरीब परिवार का कम पढ़ा व्यक्ति कैसे मुसीबतों का सामना करते हुए तरक्की की सीढ़ियों पर आगे बढ़ता है, इसी कहानी पर बेस्ड यह फ़िल्म है। फ़िल्म में और क्या ट्विस्ट या कहानी है यह तो फ़िल्म देखने पर पता चलेगा।
ट्रेलर और म्यूजिक लॉन्च के मौके पर फ़िल्म के प्रोड्यूसर और जिस व्यक्ति के जीवन पर यह फ़िल्म बनी है वह शख्स रिजवान अदतिया अपने जीवन और फ़िल्म से जुड़ी बातें भी साझा करते हुए कहा कि इस फ़िल्म के जरिये युवा और व्यापारी को प्रेरणा मिलेगी तथा परिवार के बीच आपसी संबंध और मानव सेवा का संदेश देगी। उन्होंने कहा कि फ़िल्म की सारी कमाई उनके चैरिटेबल फाउंडेशन में जाएगी जिससे जरूरतमंद लोगों की सहायता हो सके। फ़िल्म में रिज़वान के किरदार को गुजराती फ़िल्म और रंगमंच के अभिनेता विक्रम मेहता ने साकार किया है। रिज़वान की शूटिंग पोरबंदर और मोजाम्बी (अफ्रीका) में की गई है। यह फ़िल्म रिज़वान की प्रेरणादायी बायोग्राफी के आधार पर बनी है।

Leo NewsMumbai: A grand program was organised at The Celebration Club, Andheri (West),Mumbai by famous martial arts expert of bollywood and chairman of the Chitah Jeet Kune Do Global Sports Federation (CJKD) Cheetah Yajnesh Shetty on the occasion of 79th birth anniversary of Bruce Lee, a Hong Kong-American actor, director, martial artist and martial arts instructor.In memory of Bruce Lee, a national martial arts championship was organised in which the children from 20 schools from Mumbai and 26 states participated. After this Yajnesh Shetty released a poster of Bruce Lee alongwith Milind Gunaji, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Shahjad Khan, Ashok Beniwal, Vinay Anand and CJKD Director Trishan Shetty, Vice President Harish Shetty and ccelebrated the birth anniversary by cutting a cake.
In the program, school books and study material was distributed among 50 under privileged children. After these prizes, trophy and certificates were given away to the winners of the championship and to the CJKD instructors involved in giving free training “for women power empowerment”.
On the occasion, CJKD Chairman and famous bollywood martial arts expert Cheetah Yajnesh Shetty said that “we have been celebrating Bruce Lee’s birth anniversary for the last 10 years. The last schedule, directed by Sree Varun, has already gone on the floors in Madhya Pradesh very soon they will complete the schedule. Daya Bai will portray how Mercy Mathew, a Malayali, transformed herself into Daya Bai, a social activist. Her work for the betterment of the tribal people of Madhya Pradesh will also be depicted. While a few portions will be shot in Kerala, there will be sequences in Madhya Pradhesh also.
Director Sree Varun said “Daya Bai has always influenced me. I always wanted to make a movie on her. When we met at Wayanad, she wasn’t convinced in the beginning. But, then she put forth a condition, that the movie should portray her life truthfully. So, our movie has no fictional element but has portrayed her life as it happened”.
Daya Bai will trace every incident, including the physical assault she had to suffer. “Her life is a struggle and many a time she was subjected to cruel treatment, like the time she was attacked by the police when she went to talk to them,” says the director. But, Sree Varun says the movie won’t have any offbeat flavour. “Daya Bai is a realistic movie in every aspect. We haven’t tried to push in any commercial elements,” added Sree Varun.
He also thinks that since Daya Bai spent her life mostly in North India, her biopic demanded to be made in Hindi. On Bidita Bag portraying the lead lady, Sree Varun says she is perfect to play the role. “They share a lot of resemblance. We chose her after considering many other actresses,” said Sree Varun.

Elite Foundation’s Tree Plantation Drive Reaches Uttar Pradesh
NewsElite Foundation recently Gorakhpur to take forward its mission of planting 10 crore trees across India. Tree plantation activity was done at SNSS Academy, Betiahata in Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh. At the event, Elite Foundation distributed T-shirt s as well as saplings amongst students of the school. On this special occasion students also filled up Shapath Patra and took pledge to make India green by planting trees and to pursue the dream project of Elite Foundation.
On this occasion the management team of the school and the officials of Elite Foundation received a warm welcome by the villagers who took part in the plantation activity. More than 5000 saplings were distributed and planted all over the rural area by campaigning door to door.
In this campaign National President of Elite Foundation, Mr. VK Agarwal said that the way pollution is increasing in the country today, Global Warming is increasing, water level is decreasing, forest are getting over and we the countrymen ignoring this dangerous situation, that will have to bear a brunt of our future generations. So, all of us should join the mission of planting more and more trees and help Elite Foundation achieve their target of 10 crore trees.

Plantation was carried out at Sant Kabir Inter College, Maa Gayatri Inter College and Indira Gandhi Inter College by Shahnaz Jahan and his team Human Rights Conservation.

How did music come your way Soma Ghosh ji ?
I inherited music from my mother, Smt. Archana Chakravarty a vocalist of Senia gharana and my first guru. Even while in her womb, I would rest happily if she sang! As a small child I would play, but would run to her lap as soon as she started teaching her students. At the small age of 4 yrs, she heard me sing and thereafter started training me. This started my musical journey!
Shehnai Samrat Bismillah Khan ji was your mentor, any unforgettable memory that you would like to share with us?
Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan was not my “guru” but definitely my mentor… he was like the Goldsmith who cut the raw diamond out and presented me to the world. He encouraged and gave me the wings to fearlessly fly in the musical horizon!! So many memories with him… the best I may say is his ‘manglorie black topiee’ that he wore for our first jugalbandi. He said, “Duniya ko Mai kaise kahun ki hum kitne khus hai … Mera manglorie topi, Jo Mai apni jawani mein pahenta tha, kahegi ki Mai Dil se yeh jugalbandi Kar Raha Hoon”
When he came to the auditorium for the jugalbandi, he was wearing his usual Gandhi topi… My heart sank on seeing the white topi. I bowed and touched his feet to take his blessings before the show. As I looked up, he was wearing the Black manglorie topi. My heart sang and all fear left me. He said, ” Tum Sher ki tarha gao, Mai tumhare piche piche rahunga!!”
Such was his greatness!
Tell us about your journey from learning music to getting title as Gandharva Kokila.
I have learned Hindustani classical music from 4 gurus. Smt. Archana Chakravarty, Shri Narayan Chakravarty,(both of Senia gharana) Shri Chittaranjan Jyotishi ji of Gwalior gharana and Smt. Bageshwari Devi of Banaras gharana. After my marriage, when I settled in Mumbai, I met Ustad Bismillah Khan sahab. And I overnight became what I am.
Baba…I mean Ust. Bismillah Khan, gave me the title of ‘Kashi Kokila’ at the Swarangana Sangeet Sammelan. But, during a concert for the Mumbai Rotary club, Vipin Reshamiya, the famous musician and also the father of music director, Himesh Reshamiya, gave me the title of ‘Gandharva Kokila’ – This helped me culminate into what I am today and the name stuck ever since.
Who has influenced you the most in Sangeet gharanas.
Every Gharana has its strong points. I got musical depth & flight of imagination from Senia gharana. From Gwalior gharana I got emotional rendering in my singing and Banaras gharana rounded up my entire musical upbringing. I must say that I got the best from all the three Gharanas!
Tell us about your Parampara concerts to help conserve the Indian culture through music. How did you develop this concept?
Naushad Ali, the legendary music director and Ust. Bismillah Khan were discussing the dire condition of Indian musical instruments, many of which were becoming endangered. Naushad ji, entrusted me with the great responsibility of trying to save these endangered instruments… This started my Prampara series. The then President, Hon Dr. A.P.J.A. Kalam strongly supported me in this noble cause, and came for the inauguration of my first 3 day music festival.
Tell us your voyage with Bhavanjali ?
After my training had reached a certain level, Guru Pt. Chittaranjan Jyotishi, inspired few of us to start performing before an audience. For this purpose, we formed Bhavanjali, a musical platform for all of us. Our first song & dance drama ran in to financial problem and taught us the importance of marketing. We learned the harsher realities of life. But thanks to my elder brother, Shri Amitabh Chakravarty, and our grit, we managed to keep Bhavanjali going for a few years. But after a few years, I got married and then had to shift to Mumbai.
You mesmerized your audiences with pliable voice that enables you to take the Taar Saptak without a falsetto note, how much did you have to practice to achieve this?
‘Taar saptak’ is a very beautiful note that can be achieved only after dedicated practice over years. My mother and her guru-bhai, Shri Narayan Chakravarty, made me practice this for years.
Why music should be compulsory in every school? And could you tell us about your efforts in helping Indian classical music reach to maximum number of students and the younger generation.
According to APJ Abdul Kalam Sahab, without music, humans are no different than animals, and I wholeheartedly agree. It is our culture that separates us. Music has a great de-stressing effect on humans. Kids today lead very stressful lives, competition is increasing and their lifestyles are getting more and more hectic, but their increasing dependence on fast rhythmic western music keeps them perpetually excited- on the other hand, singing and practicing Indian classical music is a form of yoga, the breathing techniques and vibrations help calm you and make you healthier. Earlier in our school days, we used to have several extra-curricular activity classes in which we had poetry, song dance & dramas. Gradually these classes vanished from the curriculum and students were burdened with only heavy studies. This has to change.
I then undertook several performances across Uttar Pradesh through Spick Macay and reached Ragadari singing to the students. Through my travels, I realized that Folk music across North India was now skewed, bordering on double meaning vulgarity! This pushed me to approach the Ministry of Culture with a project on Indian folk music and spreading awareness about it in several schools and colleges. The Ministry welcomed my proposal and I started reaching out to the students. I performed in major States and invited singers and dancers from adjoining States. The students loved each performance, their vehement appreciation was evident when the students at each school then performed an impromptu folk dance recital!!
I am truly grateful that God has given me the means & opportunity to serve the cause of Indian music, especially folk music, in which the roots of classical music lies. I am very glad that the Education Ministry has woken up and trying to re-induct such extracurricular classes that de-stresses the students and imbibes our cultural heritage in them.
You have launched many music albums, which one is your own favorite and why?
You might have noticed that I first try to steep myself in a particular form of music that I plan to record and then done my recordings. When I was steeped only in Raagdari, I sang in duet with Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan and there are two very popular albums with Times Music. Some beautiful solo renderings of Ragas on HMV.
Then came a phase of folk music. I recorded several Thumri, Hori & Kajari albums.
Naushadji had made me promise that my next project should be focused on Ghazal. “Aap je gayeki mein Maine Begum ki rooh payi hai Somaji. Aap Ghazal jaroor gayein!” But I had to take my time and imbibe and perfect the finer nuances of Ghazal gayeki before I could record myself. As I was recording my first Ghazal album ‘Ishq’, I was heartbroken to learn that Naushad ji had passed away. The album went on to gain tremendous popularity and I dedicated the album to him.
Simultaneously, several religious channels approached me to sing Bhajans for them. Sanskar channel regularly broadcasts my Bhajans and Sanskrit sloka albums. I feel immensely indebted to my listeners when I find that most of my albums are at the top of the charts in each genre.
When can we see you as playback singer for Bollywood films?When I was steeped in Indian Classical music, my friend, Himesh Reshammiya, had asked me to sing several of his compositions. Then, I was at a stage in my career that prevented me from branching out of classical music. But I did sing one song for his movie ‘Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye’, which had Thumri ang rendering in the song. But now I’m at that point where I’ve established my classical ground and I’m very open to film music, if it fits my music profile & my taste.
Apart from music, if given a chance will you ever join politics?
I will do whatever it takes to make sure that Indian music is saved (preserved & propagated) in it’s full glory. For that if I have to join politics – so be it!
What is your plan for the future?
I was entrusted by Baba, Ust Bismillah Khan Sahab and Naushad ji with the responsibility of creating a ‘Sangeet Gram’- a gurukul that adheres to the traditional Guru Shishya parampara of imparting education in music, where a Guru teaches aspiring students whilst also saving endangered instruments and gharana traditions- be it instrumental, vocal, or dance- both folk and classical. We will audio and video record the masters for our archives for future reference for the generations to come, so the art form survives. We have already equipped ourselves with a recording studio with video cameras for the same. If all goes well, we will be starting Sangeet Gram by this time next year.
What is your message to our readers?
I wholeheartedly believe in the therapeutic effects of Indian classical music. In fact, after Chota Khayal, I researched on the psychosomatic effects of music on human beings. My request to the readers is to make music a part of lives, to listen to music when they can, and to live healthily!!
This reminds me of something that happened recently. After a concert at NCPA last year, a man came forward to speak to me. He told me he was a Commander in the Naval forces. He was stationed in a submarine and had suffered a stroke that paralysed him. He then found solace in Ras Barse, a live recording of my jugalbandi with Baba, Bismillah Khan Sahab. He listened to it every day for 7 years and recovered without any surgical intervention. He found strength in it to get better, to overcome his illness. He is now hale and hearty, and continues to serve the country.
Another thing I want to tell my readers is that folk music, our Lok Sangeet, has in it the roots of all forms of Indian classical music. It is fluid and ever evolving, accompanying every aspect of our lives, being equally bonded to our cultural heritage.
However, I find it alarming that this very folk music as a part of movies, the largest way of reaching the masses in my honest opinion, is losing its essence, it’s lyrics are bordering on being vulgar. These ‘item songs’ are warping our perception, moving us away from how we need to perceive women, taking us away from an ideal society. If we lose our moorings, we lose who we are. As I traveled across India for the ‘Bharatiya Lok Sangeet’ series, I targeted schools and colleges and interacted with thousands of students, so that I could present to them folk music that not only entertains but also educates- it makes us better humans. It brought me immense gratification to note that they not only appreciate our heritage, but also want to learn more about it. They just need to be exposed to it, and that responsibility falls on us.
How did you feel after getting the Padma Shri award?
In the beginning, I was just happy… But gradually I understood that I have added responsibilities. I have to work harder to save our Musical/Cultural heritage and also save the endangered musical instruments of my country. This a never-ending task as our senior gurus are all getting older. In fact, we have now to take urgent care of our Gurus in order to save our heritage.

Indywood Talent Hunt Dubai Chapter Kick Starts
Indywood Dubai: UAE’s biggest youth festival, organized by Aries Group of Companies in association with Biz Events was inaugurated today. This two-day event was inaugurated by Mr. Sohan Roy, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Aries Group of Companies at Dubai Amity School.
This inauguration kick started the grand finale of Indywood Talent Hunt 2019. The winners in music, dance, photography, fine arts, filmmaking, designing, quiz, technical, dramatics and creative media sections will compete during this two-day event.
Students from more than 400 music and arts schools in the UAE competed in the preliminary rounds and the winners were qualified to the semi-final rounds. Peter Patel says about the single most profitable innovation he have made to his store over the past 12 months. “Introducing a dedicated chiller for vegan products has meant we’ve been able to significantly increase the range and reap the rewards, with weekly sales now at £2,000”.
He describes about his best strategy for increasing footfall in his store.
“Really getting under the skin of what existing shoppers want and crucially who else could be shopping with us. Once we have that, finding a point of difference and answering their needs”.
He also describes two key challenges facing convenience and explain your plans for taking advantage.
“1. Point of difference With two Sainsbury’s, a Co-op and independently owned convenience stores all within walking distance, we have had to work hard to create a point of difference. Using our shopper insights we have created an offering that is tailored to meet our shoppers’ needs, including the most comprehensive BWS and vegan offerings in the area. Not only do our sales prove that we’ve created a point of difference, but the fact that our nearest competitor, Sainsbury’s, is now directing customers to our vegan range, is the icing on the cake. 2. Shopping environment All the research showed that our local shoppers wanted smaller batched produced products, whether that was BWS or vegan products. They’re also keen to top-up shop regularly and want healthy, easy dinners with fresh ingredients and that’s exactly what we’ve delivered. We’ve also tried to look after our younger visitors and have introduced small shopping trolleys for children, which have been a big hit. The results speak for themselves. Basket spend has grown from £5.30 to £6.66 and sales have grown from £26,000 to £35,000”
He lists three ways in which he have responded and retained footfall after a new discounter/supermarket opened in his catchment area.
“1. Point of difference to create distinction. We’ve created a real point of difference with our vegan offering. Our competitors have now reduced their vegan range as they simply couldn’t compete with the depth and breadth of our offering. We have also introduced a specialist range of grocery items to fulfil demand from customers seeking a premium range of goods. 2. The extension of our BWS offering means that we now have one of the most comprehensive ranges in the area, ensuring we always have a great range of possibilities to pair with our ‘meal for tonight’ options. 3. In a direct response to customer feedback and to reduce environmental impact, we have introduced loose fruit and vegetables, so shoppers can buy the exact quantity they need”

Shad Saleem says how a store-owner can become the spirit of the community.
“For me, it’s all about being woven into the community; a part of the fabric. A community can be diverse – a mix of people of different ages, jobs, families and it’s about connecting with all of them in some way. I think one of the ways I’ve managed to do this is I’ve never said no to ANY community support asked of me in the last 20 years”.
He says about the initiatives that he developed to benefit his local community in the last 12 months.
“Within our community there are children that come from families below the national poverty threshold who can’t always afford food and are being sent to school hungry. Through my involvement with The Rotary Club of Blyth we worked together with Malvin’s Close Primary Academy, where we created a Breakfast Club enabling 30 children to be given a proper breakfast and ‘set them up’ for the day. The school fed back that there is a close correlation between the success of children within the classroom and being well fed. We’re looking at expanding this initiative and I’d like to support this financially through the shops (my personal ambition is to ensure that no child in Blyth goes to school hungry)”.
He describes two key challenges facing Convenience and his plans for taking advantage.
“Blyth is inundated with retail shops; we have ALDI, Lidl, ASDA and many convenience stores. The challenge is to differentiate ourselves from everyone else. One way we do this is through stocking local products. Our eggs are delivered fresh daily from family-run Lintz Hall Eggs, our milk and fresh dairy comes from Hanover Dairies, our local green-grocer (John!) brings fresh, seasonal vegetables, and a local Blyth sandwich lady delivers delicious homemade sandwiches every day. Another challenge is ensuring we offer a quality range of products at competitive prices, as many customers are on a budget. We work closely with best-one to ensure we have a range of products at various price-points and also run monthly special offers”.
He lists three ways in which he have responded and retained footfall after a new discounter/supermarket opened in his catchment area.
“One way we’ve retained footfall is through our support of the community – we support local people, and in turn, they support us back. We face a lot of retailer competition but because we are at the heart of the community customers choose to shop with us. We’ve also utilised social media to engage with our customers. We now have 5,000 Facebook followers and promote our special offers and new products via our page. Lastly, we’ve introduced food-to-go options allowing us to capture lunch time footfall. This has bought new shoppers through our doors, as well as the same familiar faces”

They have introduced a couple of initiatives to ‘do out bit’ to tackle food poverty and childhood obesity. They have introduced a very popular loyalty card scheme. People get a stamp every time they spend £10 on groceries. They chose to keep the amount that triggers a stamp relatively low and shoppers just need to collect 10 stamps to get £5 off their shopping. It’s unbelievably popular and lots of people save their full cards til Christmas so that they can get some really good money off their festive shopping.

Justin Whittaker says “We identified that whilst our food-to-go offer was great for breakfast and dinner – from 4pm we were quiet. Yet takeaways are thriving in the evening. We were missing a trick. We also identified that we were missing ‘millennials’ from our customer base. So we introduced the desserts bar to complement the rest of our food-to-go offering by giving an offer for the evening trade and something that would appeal to the younger generation – waffles, crepes and premium ice cream! The desserts bar alone takes £4,000 a week with a profit margin of +50%. We’ve introduced exclusive offers, such as Waffle Wednesday (buy one get one free) or Monday 2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. And we’ve developed an ordering app to maximise the appeal of the dessert bar, appeal to our younger more ‘tech-savvy’ younger generation and to future proof our business. Customers can click onto a Facebook post to ‘shop now’. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app and more importantly, it’s all on high profit lines. Add to that our food-to-go zone with coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, grab and go chiller, which includes sandwiches and meal deals. There’s something for everyone throughout the day. Evenings are now our busiest time of day for food to go! We already had a good broad food-to-go offering to cover most requirements for grab-and-go. Our food-to-go zone includes a coffee machine, doughnut rack, hot cabinet, noodle snacks, F’real milkshakes and a chiller (with sandwiches, crisps and soft drinks). Now that we’ve introduced the desserts bar we’ve got an offer that is really popular with the younger generation and also for evening trade. That’s what was missing before. The investment in the desserts bar was £80k. Payback was just 6 months.”
He says about the best-performing component of food-to-go. “This year, we’ve built a dessert bar! This has definitely proved to be the best performing component of our food to go offer. It cost £80k to install and payback has been just 6 months. Previously a large proportion of our business was driven through promotions, so our POR was just 19%. We reduced SKUs across the store to create space to build our ‘Just Desserts Co’ bar. It’s a vibrant pink – really distinct and completely different from the rest of the store. We sell a range of cream cakes, premium ice cream, crepes and waffles with a variety of toppings. The unit also houses a Chicago Town pizza station, milkshakes and a Tango ice blast with carbonated slush. The dessert bar is already taking £4,000/week and with +50% profit margins. Different daily offers include Waffle Wednesday (BOGOF), Pancake Tuesday (BOGOF) and Monday x2 pizzas and Pepsi for £10. Customers are quite happy to wait while their waffle is being created in-store! The teatime solution has always been a problem but with the dessert bar and pizza options we have now started to evolve into this market especially at the weekends”.

Anything new coming into the store has to have a minimum of 30% POR tapping into the millenniums (who have never bought a newspaper or cigs in there life) ie Tango Ice Blast costs £1:10 selling at £5 also not leaving out the silver greys by doing great shop local deals ie local milk, bread and eggs again with some great margins. Also taking a great local shop with traditional values and putting it into the modern world with a great app connected to FB”.

Customers click on a Facebook post to ‘shop now’ and place their order – for pick up or for delivery. We’re doing £1,500 business with the app. 3 We ensure that we’re active on social media. It’s the key tool that we use for promoting all our activities and for connecting with our customers and the community. For example, when we put Gordon’s pink gin on promotion at £12/bottle with a free glass and promoted it on Facebook the post reached 59,000 people and we sold £2,500 in one day. When all the banks in the area closed, we put in an ATM and posted ‘free cash, like and share’. It reached 129,000 people”.

Queen of Mashups: ‘SOS Nitelife’, an Exclusive Platform for female DJanes, successfully hosted the fourth edition of ‘Queen of Mashups’ World DJane Championship on November 27. Top 15 Djanes from across the globe participated in the gala event hosted at Dragonfly Experience, The Orb, Sahar, Mumbai.
DJ Blondie from the USA and DJ Neit Kaur from India were declared the joint-winners of the fourth World DJane Championship.
Defending champion DJ Natalia Moon (Australia) emerged as the first runner-up, DJ Cynthia Lacle (Netherlands) and DJ Dicca Higgs (Poland) were pronounced the second runner-up, DJ Farah Farz (Singapore) was the third runner-up, DJ Linda Erfolg (Germany) was named fourth runner-up while DJ Lisa (Ukraine) emerged as fifth runner-up.
The organisers also created social media awards for this event; DJ Natalia Moon from Australia and DJ Jericha (Philippines) emerged the winners in this category. DJ Blondie from USA and DJ Charlie Smit (Netherlands) were the first runner-ups while DJ Neit Kaur from India and DJ Olesya Blondz (Russia) were named the second runner-up.
15 talented DJanes from various parts of the world participated in the competition and set the stage on fire with their musical numbers. In the end, the judges chose two joint-winners.
The audience was enthralled by the tunes of popular dance numbers played by the talented ladies behind the music consoles. All the distinguished guests were in awe of SOSNitelife’s arrangements and hospitality.
These talented young ladies were judged by a jury comprising DJ Suketu, DJ Notorious and DJ Nasha. The jury congratulated the winners as well as the runners-up and hailed the woman power.
Congratulating the winners DJ Suketu said, “I congratulate DJ Blondie and DJ Neit for winning the fourth World DJane Championship. I am sure their success will inspire other budding female disc jockeys to continue doing what they are doing and eventually win such titles. I also thank SOS : Nitelife for this initiative and congratulate them for hosting such a lovely evening.”
After winning the title DJ Neit, who won the Queen of Mashups India title in 2018, said, “I feel immensely happy to have won this championship. I am thankful to SOS : Nitelife for providing such a unique and wonderful platform to showcase my talent. I also congratulate DJ Blondie for being the joint winner. It has been a wonderful journey for me in the last year. I won the Queen of Mashups India title last year and this year I am the World Champion.”
DJ Blondie on being adjudged the joint-winner of the championship said, “I congratulate DJ Neit for being a winner and sharing the honours with me. I also thank SOS Nitelife and Mr Chand Seth for putting up such a spectacular show. It was indeed a night to remember and the audience was encouraging. All the participants were simply amazing and the contest was really tough but in the end, there has to be a winner. I feel lucky to have come out as a joint-winner. I wish more such contests will be held in the future.”
